BLOOMBERG ADOPT TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPED BY APT

BLOOMBERG, one of the world’s leading financial broadcasters, are to use sophisticated technology developed by Audio Processing Technology (APT) in Belfast.
The contract, signed followed the recent Trade International mission to New York and Toronto, will mean Bloomberg using APT audio compression technology to provide faster digital transmission links between their studios in the key financial centres of New York and London.
Jonathon McClintock, APT’s Commercial Director, said: “This is a significant breakthrough for us in the US broadcasting industry, a sector which we have been targeting for some time. The timing of the mission was opportune because it enabled us to follow contacts from desk research we had carried out in Belfast.
“While our audio technology is already used in North America in the movie, recording and television industries, we see a very substantial business opportunity in broadcasting and telecommunications. The Bloomberg contract is therefore an extremely important endorsement by such respected US broadcasters with a global reputation.”
Established in 1989 as a spin-off company from an audio research project at Queen’s University with assistance from QUBIS, the university’s industrial promotion organisation, APT are now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Solid State Logic of Oxford. (CD)
