APT Technology make an impact at The Proms

APT’s WorldNet Milano audio codecs played an important role at this year’s Proms, by helping to ensure the success of BBC Radio 3’s 2003 Proms Season broadcasts.
As part of the preparation for the 2003 season a fixed radio link was installed to send an uncompressed AES/EBU signal from the Royal Albert Hall back to Broadcasting House. ISDN links were also booked for the season, both to cope with the requirements of overseas broadcasters and to act as a hot spare.
APT WorldNet Milano units, which feature APT’s Enhanced apt-X audio compression algorithm, were used in conjunction with the ISDN links to provide non destructive loss-less compression and ensure delivery of the full audio spectrum, thus retaining the high audio quality associated with Radio 3 broadcasts.
