APT To Launch New Audio Codec For HD Radio STLs

At NAB 2008, APT will launch their new audio codec, designed specifically for HD Radio applications, the WorldCast Horizon HD.
APT's Vice President North American Operations, Kevin Campbell, said: "Since the launch of HD Radio, US Broadcasters have been asking for a solution to simplify their HD STLs and make them more cost-efficient. We are delighted to be able to offer the WorldCast Horizon HD in time for this year's NAB."
The WorldCast Horizon HD is a duplex stereo codec which enables broadcasters to deliver FM and HD content from studio to transmitter site.
With both a T1 and ethernet interface, broadcasters can utilize existing T1 links for the FM transport and send their HD content as a UDP stream embedded in the T1 link, eliminating the need for additional bandwidth and cost. At the remote/transmitter link, the HD content is presented back on an IP port.
Campbell continued: "This unit has proved highly successful with our early adopters and there has been a lot of interest from many of our customers.
"We will be showing the unit on our NAB stand N8811 and offering a special package price for units ordered at the show."
As a fully duplex device, WorldCast Horizon HD allows off-air monitoring or an independent channel to backhaul RPU feeds and satellite downlinked audio. An RS232 port is available for PAD and contact closures for remote control.
Broadcasters interested in booking a demo of the unit or taking advantage of the special show price, should contact Kevin Campell at APT's Boston office on: 800 955 APTX (2789).
