GLASGOW UNIVERSITY STUDENTS SCOOP AWARDS

GLASGOW University Student Television (GUST) have received several awards in this year's National Student Television Association (NaSTA) prize ceremony.
The station came first in five out of the twelve categories, and was highly commended in a further two. Over 30 UK stations took part in the competition, although GUST is the only student television station in Scotland.
Celebrating the awards, GUST controller Kirsten Highet said: "GUST have been in existence for 36 years and we have done consistently well in the NaSTA competitions. This year we did better than any other station and were awarded Best Broadcaster for the sixth year running. Student television is often overlooked and this competition is the only opportunity for us to win recognition for our efforts. As the competitions are judged by external practitioners working in the industry we receive valuable feedback and our work gets noticed. As Best Broadcaster we spend a lot of time advising students from other universities on setting up their own television stations. Cost is one obvious issue, which is why we are very grateful for Student Representative Council support, but it is equally vital to have a pool of technically literate students who can actually get the show on the road."
GUST won first prizes for Best broadcaster, Station identity, Documentary (Histoy of King Tuts Club in Glasgow), Open category (Freshers' Guide 2000) and Live broadcast (Daft Thursday 2000).
