IABM awards opportunities to students for training
Through its association with, and as a partner of IBC, the International Association of Broadcasting Manufacturers (IABM) is awarding a small number of full, IBC 2003 conference registrations to student engineers.
As part of an ongoing development by the IABM with regard to education and training, the awards were presented to students from the St Petersburg University of Film & Television in Russia. The IABM also sponsors full travel and accommodation in addition to full conference entry. As part of the promotion, the winning students also received a digital terrestrial television set-top box (presented by Telemedium - the first Russian digital broadcaster) and a cash prize (presented by DIP - a leading Russian broadcast equipment manufacturer).
The university's encouraging support ensured that the competition received entries of an extremely high standard, with the final selection made from a field of 20 projects. The judges, from the university and professionals from the broadcasting industry, expressed their satisfaction with the outstanding quality of the submissions.
The final judging panel consisted of: Alexander Peregudov - General Manager, DIP Company, Dimitri Volobouev - General Manager of Telemedium, Professor Konstantin Glasman - head of video systems department, St Petersburg University of Film & Television, and Martin Salter - chairman, IABM. Alexander Belousov, rector of St Petersburg University of Film & Television attended the final presentations and awarding of the prizes.
The IABM are also expected to announce that additional students from Ravensbourne College in the UK will also be offered the opportunity to participate in the IBC conference.
