Scottish Students On Screen awards

Over 140 films from universities and colleges across Scotland have been entered for this year's Scottish Students on Screen – a showcase of the best student and young people's work – at Dundee Contemporary Art on March 14 and 15.
On Thursday March 14, the programme concentrated principally on work produced by schoolchildren. However, in an innovative twist screenwriters hopeful of winning a commission under the recently announced Tartan Smalls scheme, which encourages drama writing for 6-13 year olds, entrants will pitch their ideas to an audience of children in that age group.
On Friday March 15, Treva Etienne, star of 'London's Burning' and the box office hit 'Black Hawk Down', will lead a media workshop looking particularly at script and story development.
Scottish Students on Screen is intended to foster links between the screen industries and education through a programme of seminars, demonstrations and hands-on opportunities. The culmination of the two-day event will be the awards ceremony when awards in the five prize categories, as well as two special prizes, are presented.
One of the most sought-after accolades is the Metro Digital Audience Award that allows delegates at the festival to vote for their favourite film. People unable to attend the event can vote via the web at www.metrodigital.tv/ssos .
All the short-listed films will be transmitted on this site for two weeks after the end of the event.
Scottish Students on Screen is supported by Scottish Screen, Digital Animations, Lee Lighting/Panavision Scotland, Metro, Kodak, DCA PACT, the Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland, Metro, Scottish Enterprise, BAFTA Scotland, Angus Digital Media and Digital Facilities.
