Morgan Spurlock confirmed for 2004 ‘Channel 4 Interview’

The Sheffield International Documentary Festival has confirmed Morgan Spurlock as the subject of this year’s ‘Channel 4 Interview’.
The writer and director of ‘Super Size Me’, the fourth most successful documentary of all time, will be interviewed by Channel 4 Commissioning Editor and Shooting People founder Jess Search.
Following in the esteemed footsteps of previous Channel 4 Interview guests Michael Moore, Errol Morris and the legendary DA Pennebaker, Spurlock will be discussing his career, the growing trend in documentary cinema and the impact of Super Size Me, both in America and across the globe.
Spurlock’s first feature Super Size Me has become a huge international success, propelling him to global acclaim. By placing his own body squarely in the middle of the film, he has personalized how fast food can affect anyone. Taking on McDonald’s, Spurlock cast himself as a modern-age everyman and won over the audience with his naïve appeal. With over 11 million dollars in box office receipts, he can claim a success—but only when the burger corporation stopped their ‘super-sizing’ of junk food, could he acknowledge his real triumph. The film, and Spurlock’s career are important signposts in the development of the independent documentary tradition and political filmmaking.
Morgan Spurlock has been nominated for no less than seventeen awards for Super Size Me, and has already won Best Director at The Sundance Festival 2004 and The Guardian New Director's Award at the Edinburgh Film Festival 2004.
Brent Woods, Director of the Sheffield International Documentary Festival, said: “Sheffield International Documentary Festival welcomes Morgan Spurlock for this year’s Channel 4 Interview. Morgan follows in a long line of respected filmmakers who have made films that reflect current social issues, challenge the status quo yet entertain and inform its audience. Ultimately this is what the Sheffield International Documentary Festival is all about.”
