Oklahoma broadcaster opts for Curious World Maps

Creating high-impact maps to illustrate breaking local and national news stories used to be a time consuming process for broadcaster KOKI FOX23.
But thanks to a recent investment in Curious Software’s Curious World Maps, the station’s graphic designers now have “maps galore” at their fingertips.
KOKI FOX23, owned and operated by Clear Channel Communications, airs a mixture of syndicated programmes and FOX network programmes to viewers in Tulsa and the North Eastern part of Oklahoma. Its original programming includes an hour-long newscast every night and half-hour early evening newscasts on weekdays.
Before it acquired Curious World Maps, the broadcaster had to rely on stills created from Adobe Illustrator templates. According to Joel Rorabaugh, Art Director and Broadcast Animator for both KOKI FOX23 and KTFO UPN41, this method was time-consuming and haphazard because it was difficult to create high-quality maps that were consistent in visual style at every scale, from street level to state and national levels.
He said: “Curious Maps has given us the ability to create highly attractive animated maps with minimal effort. Although we are still learning how to take full advantage of the software’s capabilities, we have successfully finalised a consistent style throughout a variety of templates for our maps and we are truly delighted with the results.”
