This Scotland documentary chosen to compete for new European media prize

'Then and Now', a This Scotland documentary made under the scheme promoted by Scottish Screen, Scottish TV and Grampian TV, has been nominated for a new award at the ARD Media Prize 2003 in Berlin.
The CIVIS award for integration and cultural diversity in Europe will be presented at a ceremony in Berlin on November 4.
Then and Now, described by the ARD committee as an example of practiced integration, recounts the story of an Iraq family and their life in Scotland. The documentary show the personal experiences of a father and his two daughters in dealing with two different cultures. Without abandoning their own cultural ties, the family integrates well into the new Scottish environment.
Produced by Joel Venet and directed by Anna Jones of Video in Pilton, the programme was broadcast earlier this year in Scotland to great acclaim and is up against some very stiff competition for the CIVIS award from around Europe, as well as other British productions on the short list, including 'The Kumars at No 42' and 'Babyfather.'
Anna Jones, who has just been selected to attend the National Film & Television School in Beaconsfield, will fly to Berlin as a guest of CIVIS Media Foundation for the ceremony next week.
