BBC Scotland And Screen Scotland Join Forces
The search is on for the next generation of Scotland's unscripted television directors as BBC Scotland and Screen Scotland join forces in the continued drive to support emerging talent pipelines in to the creative industry.
In the joint initiative eight candidates will be offered the opportunity to produce and direct their first documentary for BBC Scotland and BBC iPlayer. Each successful applicant will be based for the duration of the project at a leading production company in Scotland who will have pitched the documentary and won the commission on which the candidate will work. The company will also oversee the development, filming and post production of the film while providing training, guidance and support throughout the initiative.
BBC Scotland and Network commissioners will support in the development and production of the documentary and ‘Masterclasses’ will be offered by a number of leading industry experts and practitioners throughout the duration of the project.
The initiative was launched at a supplier briefing held at BBC Scotland’s Pacific Quay headquarters. Speaking at the launch, Tony Nellany BBC Scotland Channel Manager and Commissioning Executive said: "BBC Scotland has a strong track record in supporting and developing talent be that in front or behind the scenes. The central focus of this initiative is to support Scotland's independent production community by attracting and supporting the best emerging non-scripted directing talent based here in Scotland."
"From suppliers we are looking for ideas that will connect with 16-34 year olds on both linear and digital services in ways that feel both authentic and distinctive. Once we have commissioned the films, we will match the eight successful candidates with the production companies and support them as they bring the ideas to life."
Speaking on behalf of Screen Scotland Dani Carlaw, Head of Unscripted added: "It's extremely exciting to be pioneering this initiative with BBC Scotland. It offers a real opportunity for emerging talent from all walks of life to work on dynamic commissionable ideas from Scotland's indies."
Applications for the initiative are now being accepted. The closing date is 12 July 2022. Please visit the Careers Hub for the criteria and details of how to apply.
