TARTAN SMALLS LAUNCHED BY CBBC SCOTLAND AND SCOTTISH SCREEN

A NEW scheme was launched on November 22, 2001 in conjunction with CBBC Scotland and Scottish Screen.
The purpose of the ‘Tartan Smalls’ scheme is to create new and exciting work for this demanding audience. Tartan Smalls offers an opportunity for new talent to work in the children's area, or existing talent, to enter the exciting creative genre.
Applications are welcome from writer/producer/director teams or from individual writers. Where necessary Scottish Screen and CBBC will introduce writers to prospective producers and directors.
After the initial shortlist three or four projects will be selected by a panel consisting of representatives from Scottish Screen and CBBC Scotland as well as individuals from the independent sector.
Successful applicants will be awarded a Tartan Smalls commission where usual CBBC contractual procedures will apply. With additional support from Scottish Screen National Lottery Fund awards will be for £35,000.
Scripts of all genre are welcome, but tone and focus should be inspired by and appropriate for the 16.35 or 17.00 weekly drama slots on CBBC1. It is important that the duration and the cost of the film is considered. Projects exceeding nine minutes in length will not be selected.
The deadline for submission is January 11, 2002.
For an application form Tel: 0141 302 1700. (CD)
