JVC supply rear-projection system to Yorkshire TV newsroom facility
Yorkshire television, one of the UK's biggest ITV/Granada companies has just completed an upgrade to its main regional newsroom studio, which includes one D-ILA projector, model DLA-M2000SCE and a 90-inch CinePro HC screen.
This is the first newsroom installation of JVC projector and screen system. The JVC equipment is used for the main news programme, "Calendar" which is broadcast at prime-time, seven days per week. The programme, which has been running since 1968, is broadcast to a potential 5.7 million viewers.
Recent changes to the facility and format of Yorkshire's regional news means Calendar has two presenters, one out on-location and one situated in the studio. Newsreaders read daily news and talk between the studio and location. The projected image and screen material gains about 15 minutes of air time per programme, shown from different camera angles.
Neil Salmon, technical supervisor comments, "we needed the images to look good on camera and also a reasonable size for the presenter to stand next to. So far, we are tremendously happy with the projector and screen which produce excellent picture quality and crisp, sharp images. This investment has been true value for money".
He adds, "with the projector system being so flexible, we will look at using it in future programmes, such as daytime and sports".
