Rushes post Placebo's 'Bitter End' promo
Following on from the recent Underworld promo, director Howard Greenhalgh has done it again, with the fantastic 'Bitter End' promo from Placebo, claim Rushes.
Due for release on March 10, 'The Bitter End' is the first single from their upcoming fourth album, 'Sleeping With Ghosts'. Lead singer Brian Molko said: "I think we have to prove ourselves again to a certain degree, because to be sloppy and lazy and be all rock star about it would get us an immediate finger in the face."
Director Howard Greehalgh said: "It's the fifth video I've directed for one of my absolute favourite bands. Placebo always go for off the wall ideas, so here was the chance to experiment with the latest thermal imaging cameras to invent a "seek and destroy" concept (in a cosmic kind of way) The task was to fuse imagery from the cameras with radar sweeps, and then to link the band performing on the largest radio satellite telescope in the UK. Apart from not being able to use our cellphones whilst actually on the dish, nobody suffered any adverse radiation problems!"
Rushes Flame expert, Derek Moore said: "Directed by Howard Greenhalgh through Godman, the film features the three band members performing in the giant Lovell telescope in Manchester. Unfortunately, they couldn't be shot on the dish itself, so they were filmed in a glamorous studio in deepest darkest Perrivale, leaving Rushes to carefully track and composite them onto the helicopter shots of the telescope. As the promo develops and night falls, an Inferno effect, we see that the satellite dish has become a giant radar, created by Rushes, in which the band are performing. We fly gradually into the radar to discover a three-dimensional thermal world where people are literally heading towards their ultimate 'bitter end'.
Rushes computer graphics department helped to realise this transition, and developed the thermal look in Inferno. The video ends with Rushes making the telescope explode, showering the band in a cosmic discharge of heat and sparks, a furious ending to an energetic promo."
