BAFTA set date for third 'Creative Alchemy' seminar

BAFTA and NMK have announced that the third seminar in the new bi-monthly 'Creative Alchemy' season will take place at BAFTA, London, on June 10.
The seminar, entitled 'Pushing The Envelope – Fusing Art, Games And Entertainment', will provide an in-depth insight into the challenges involved in developing a new entertainment genre, combining art, drama and online gaming, from one of the UK's most innovative interactive entertainment teams – Alex Mayhew and Emma Westcott.
Designer Mayhew and Producer Westcott, both currently on secondment to the world-renowned Interactive Institute in Sweden, will share their personal experiences of developing a new genre of computer game: 'Dreamer' and it's sister project, 'The Hive'.
'Dreamer' is a game with a difference. The whole piece functions on the basis of high action and emotional drama, which the player will either be responsible for, or at least, involved in. It takes place inside the head of a man who has mysteriously fallen into a deep narcoleptic state. 'The Hive' is a multi-player environment set in the world of the 'Dreamer'. It pits the two main communities in Max's dream, wasps and butterflies, against each other in an on-line war. The players will enter and play in the form of one of these insects.
This Creative Alchemy event, which takes place at BAFTA, 195 Piccadilly, London, is sponsored by Business Link for London.
Alex Mayhew worked for Peter Gabriel's Real World on various multimedia projects and was also the creative director and chief designer of 'Ceremony of Innocence', an interactive CD-ROM based on Nick Bantock's Griffin and Sabine trilogy.
Emma Westcott has been a creative producer in interactive media for over seven years, producing and programming projects for the likes of MTV, Virgin and Coca-Cola.
NMK is a business and information agency for companies and individuals working in interactive, digital media. It also undertakes research and consultancy for a range of public and private sector clients and offers support and facilities for small digital media companies at its Innovation Labs.
The BAFTA Interactive Entertainment Awards have taken the new media industry by storm and have quickly established themselves as the world's Number One Interactive Entertainment awards ceremony.
Held annually in the heart of London each October, the awards are an international success.
