BBC SCOOP BAFTA INTERACTIVE AWARD TRIO

THE BBC scooped three BAFTA awards at the BAFTA Interactive Entertainment Awards ceremony on October 26.
The awards were awarded for online and interactive TV for News, Factual and Enhancement of Linear Media.
In addition, BBC Online received a special award for Best UK Developer in recognition of their high quality and far reaching content.
Director of New Media, Ashley Highfield, said: “BAFTA has recognised the role that the BBC has played in bringing new users to the internet. The quality and ambition of the content at BBC Online has encouraged millions of visitors to our site who have used it as a springboard to the Internet, fulfilling an important element in our public services role.”
The success of the BBC’s first interactive television services were confirmed with the award of Best Enhancement of Linear Media for the new interactive sports services launched this year for Wimbledon 2000 and the Open Golf Championships.
The BAFTA Interactive Entertainment Awards, hosted by Phill Jupitus, were held in association with ICL, the e-Business service company, and are the most prestigious awards in the UK for the multimedia industry.
