ITC invite comments on Channel 4 licence

The Independent Television Commission (ITC) is inviting comments on the renewal of the Channel 4 licence.
The licence is granted to the Channel 4 Television Corporation to provide the Channel 4 service under Part 1 of the Broadcasting Act, and must be renewed at the end of 2002, for a further 10-year period.
Although the draft Communications Bill has been published, changes affecting the Channel 4 licence consequent on that legislation cannot be made prior to its enactment.
As a result of this neither the ITC nor Channel 4 are proposing extensive changes to its licence at this time. However, Channel 4 have proposed a small number of revisions to its Statement of Programme Policy which forms part of its licence. Also a number of clauses concerning Channel 4's new ventures are proposed for inclusion in the new licence.
A copy of the consultation paper is available on the ITC's website at www.itc.org.uk or from the ITC Viewer Relations Unit.
Responses should be sent to: The Secretary to the Commission, Channel 4 Licence Review, 33 Foley Street, London, W1W 7TL, to arrive no later than 26 July 2002.
