RTÉ win award at Metro Éireann Awards

The RTÉ television series 'Would You Believe' has won a Metro Éireann Media and Multicultural Award (MAMA) for its programme, 'Praising the Lord All Day', which was shown in November last year.
The episode looked at the life of Nigerian couple, Taiwoo and Israel Olopade, and their two children. The couple are devout members of an African Pentecostal church in Dublin and the programme gave an insight into their lives, hopes and aspirations, their views of Irish society and the integration of the family into their home area of Lucan.
The programme was produced by Betty Purcell, who accepted the award at the ceremony, and the reporter was Mick Peelo.
Mairéad Ní Nuadháin, RTÉ Commissioning Editor for Irish Language, Multi-Cultural and Educational Programmes, said: "RTÉ are committed to helping to build and reflect a strong, vibrant and intercultural society. In sponsoring these awards, RTÉ are joining in the celebration of what has been achieved to date. Creative talent, such as we have seen at the awards this evening, resides in many of the people who have come to our shores and must be channelled into the mainstream of Irish life, for the benefit of us all. The richness that is an intercultural society will enhance the quality of our lives. We must take care that we create the conditions where it can flourish."
