RTÉ announce highlights of factual programme commissions

RTÉ Television have outlined highlights of the new factual programmes they have commissioned for transmission both in the coming months and the next year.
The range and number of these documentary and lifestyle programmes has been increased in line with the national broadcaster’s commitments, given recently in response to the granting of the new licence fee.
Single documentaries in the highly successful True Lives series will include 'They Shoot Horses Don’t They,' the Shergar story, detailing how the horse was kidnapped, and the search for its body, 'The Irish Princes', the story of an elaborate con trick by two Irishmen in London (one an ex-RUC man) who sold bogus Irish titles to wealthy Americans and 'Watching the Detectives', an Alan Gilsenan documentary investigating the work of Ireland’s private investigators
Popular Documentary Series include 'The Underworld', A four-part major new series on organised crime in Ireland, 'The Emerald Carlisle', a four-part series chronicling the progress (or otherwise) of struggling English soccer club Carlisle since the arrival there of ex-Bohs manager Roddy Collins and owner/chairman John Kehoe and 'Maybe Baby', a four-part series following several couples’ search for fertility treatment that will give them a baby.
Cathal Goan, Managing Director, RTÉ Television, said: “These are just a few highlights of an extensive list of factual programmes commissioned
from both in-house and independent producers. The programmes reflect wide, varied and colourful aspects of Irish life. The increase of such quality programming is an indication of our direction for the future and of our firm intention to deliver on the undertakings we have given.”
