US award for RTÉ documentary
An RTE 'True Lives' documentary, which investigated the murder in Burundi of the Tipperary born Papal Nuncio, Archbishop Michael Courtney, has won a top award at a US film festival.
'Assassination - The Death of Archbishop Michael Courtney', won the Best Documentary award at the 2004 Hope and Dreams Film Festival in New Jersey.
Programme presenter Jim Fahy also received the festival's annual Dreamcatcher Award for outstanding documentary filmmaking.
Hope and Dreams Film Festival Director, Christine Rusin, described the documentary as "a powerful and deeply moving portrait of a man who had given his life to the cause of peace and reconciliation in many parts of a troubled world".
The hour long programme which was first transmitted on RTÉ One last Easter, will also receive a Bronze Plaque at the Columbus International Film and Video Festival in Ohio next month.
