Prime Focus Wins Gold At New York Festivals

Prime Focus has won a Gold World Medal for Best Special Effects at the 2011 New York Festivals TV & Film Awards for its work on the BBC's Wonders of the Solar System series.
The London-based Broadcast VFX team, led by Creative Director Simon Clarke, created over 30 minutes of original visual effects for the hit five-part series.
He said: "We're delighted to be recognised by the industry for our contribution to this stunning series. The whole team worked incredibly hard to maintain and deliver the visual ambition and scientific accuracy required and their efforts have been duly rewarded."
Prime Focus Founder and CEO, Namit Malhorta, was on hand to collect the award on Simon's behalf at the ceremony at the Las Vegas Hilton.
VFX Supervisor Steve Waugh worked closely with a team of artists over a 12-month period to help visualise and bring the planets to life. This was inspired by photographic images taken from space probes such as the Cassini and Hubble telescopes. The team's work has also been nominated in the visual effects category at the forthcoming 2011 BAFTA Television Craft Awards, which takes place on Sunday, May 8.
Another big winner at the New York Festivals Awards was Nutopia's Emmy-winning America: The Story of Us, which was posted at Prime Focus. The 12-part series for History Channel won a Gold World Medal in the History & Society category.
