Stewart Purvis To Give RTS Fleming Memorial Lecture 2010

The Royal Television Society (RTS) has announced that Stewart Purvis CBE, former Ofcom partner, ITN CEO and current Professor of Television Journalism at City University, will give the RTS Fleming Memorial Lecture 2010.
The Lecture will take place in London, at the Cavendish Conference Centre, on November 11.
This year's lecture, entitled Calling Time on Analogue Regulation - an agenda for the next Communications Act, will argue that it is time to call time on analogue-style content regulation and that a new Communications Act should introduce fundamental reform.
The 2003 Communications Act will be almost a decade old by the time Digital Switchover is completed in 2012.
Uniquely placed to discuss content regulation, Professor Purvis was previously Editor-in-Chief and then Chief Executive at ITN from 1995-2003. He has also served on the Executive Board of UKCCIS (UK Council for Child Internet Safety) and chaired the Digital Britain Media Literacy Working Group and the Digital Participation Consortium.
In 2003, he was made the first Chair of Television Journalism at City University, before becoming Partner for Content and Standards at Ofcom in December 2007. After a break to take up the Ofcom post, Professor Purvis has now returned to the University.
Professor Purvis' accolades include a CBE for services to broadcast journalism in 2000 and the Royal Television Society's Gold Medal for outstanding contribution to television in 2009.
The Fleming Memorial Lecture is held in memory of Sir John Ambrose Fleming (1849 - 1945), a pioneer and advocate of broadcasting and the first President of the Television Society. Held annually, past speakers of theta Fleming Memorial Lecture have included Mark Thomspon, Sir Michael Lyons and Samir Shah.
This year's lecture will take place at the Cavendish Conference Centre, 22 Duchess Mews, London, W1G 9DT at 7:15pm on Thursday, November 11 2010.
