John Ive To Lead Bill Lovell Memorial Lecture

John Ive, IABM Director of Technology and Strategic Insight, is to lead the forthcoming Bill Lovell Memorial Lecture 2015. The event, which is free to attend for SMPTE members, non-members and students, will be held at Dolby Europe, Soho Square, London, on Friday 16 October, from 6.15pm to 10pm.

Established by SMPTE UK, the lecture is in honour of the late Bill Lovell, well known within the industry for his dedication and years of work at the BBC and ARRI Media. Prior to his death in 2013, he had championed new technologies, demystified the science for many, and provided practical understanding to a number of camera professionals. He was also one of the first attendees to SMPTE UK meetings, when the organisation was first founded.

John Ive, IABM, said: "When Bill died suddenly in March 2013, this industry lost a good friend and teacher and it is a great honour to be invited to give this SMPTE presentation in his memory. Bill dedicated his career to new technologies that would take the industry into the future, and I very much share the same passion. In fact, my theme for the lecture will be 'Fast Forward into the Future' and I will be focusing on what I've learnt through 40 plus years in this industry and relating that to what is next on the horizon for our rapidly changing sector."
