SCTE Confirms Annual Spring Lecture
The Society for Broadband Professionals (SCTE®) has announced that its annual Spring Lecture will be held in person for the first time in two years.
In a break with tradition, the event will take place in a new venue at the Showcase Cinema de Lux in Winnersh, Reading, U.K., on 23 March. The recently modernised venue features 5.1 surround sound, leather recliner seats, and a state-of-the-art digital cinema screen that will keep attendees engaged throughout the daylong event, sponsored by Corning for the cable, fibre, and telecoms industries.
"We are delighted to hold our annual Spring Lecture face to face after two years of doing the event online," said Costas Kyriacou, chair of the Lecture Committee leading the SCTE programme. "The SCTE has an exciting line up of speakers in a striking new venue. I am committed to continue bringing the latest education and information to our members and the wider community via these lectures, and we look forward to seeing as many of our members together as possible."
The SCTE Spring Lecture will feature presentations by renowned experts in the broadband community on a variety of important topics, including:
"From Continuous Integration to Continuous Deployment — Using SystemLink to Close the Gap" by Mathis Baumert, senior field applications engineer at National Instruments
"The Changing Face of Video Consumption" by Philip Neighbour, chief operating officer, and Neil Thacker, digital marketing, and sales, at Playbox Technology
"Overcoming Deployment Challenges for UK Altnets" by Mike Knott, market development manager, FTTH, at Corning
"Local Network High-Speed Internet Over Fibre" by Keith Mothersdale, technology director EMEA/APAC at Amphenol
"Automated Upstream Bandwidth Maximisation with Profile Management Application During COVID and Beyond" by Tony Costa, executive vice president and chief technology officer at Openvault
The Spring Lecture forms part of a series of events provided by the SCTE and will be followed by the Summer Lecture and Autumn Lecture in July and October, respectively. Designed to raise and maintain standards across the cable, fibre, and telecoms sectors, the SCTE has been providing accreditation, training courses, publications, networking opportunities, and a close-knit community of engineers and technicians since 1945. At the Spring Lecture, there will be two sessions in the morning and three in the afternoon, with plenty of opportunities to network during coffee breaks in the morning and afternoon, plus a 90-minute networking lunch in the bar area.
"We are always pleased to support the SCTE in their mission to educate and inform the broadband community," said Mike Knott, market development manager at Corning. "Education is an important part of what Corning stands for, and the SCTE is a great partner of ours. It is going to feel fantastic to attend an in-person event again, with the worst of the pandemic behind us."
