BSkyB Challenge Skype Over Name

It has emerged that BSkyB are to take legal action against online phone and video phone service Skype, due to similarities in name and branding.
BSkyB claim to have ownership over the rights to the 'Sky' part of its name.
Since 2005, Skype has defended numerous BSkyB legal battles regarding the use of the word ''sky' in their identity.
Skype have managed to fight off lawsuits in Brazil, Turkey and Switzerland, but last month, the European Union's trademark registration office favoured of BSkyB's objection to the Skype bubble logo, agreeing that it confused consumers. Skype has expressed intentions to appeal.
A spokesman for BSkyB told the Guardian: "Sky is involved in a long-running dispute with Skype in relation to several trademark applications filed by Skype, including, but not limited to, television-related goods and services. The key contention in the dispute is that the brands Sky and Skype will be considered confusingly similar by members of the public."
"This was supported by consumer research conducted by Sky, and which was taken into account by the relevant authorities when they recently found in Sky's favour.
"At this stage Sky has not brought any proceedings for trademark infringement against Skype."
