BBC Moscow select Quartz solution for new bureau

Quartz have received a major order to supply a range of routers and a control system to BBC Moscow’s prestigious new Bureau in Bakhrushina House.
The refurbished building is set to be the BBC’s main production base for Russia and will be fully facilitated by BBC News, BBC World Service and BBC Monitoring.
Two Q6400 routers from Quartz are to be installed in the main equipment area of the bureau; one is a 64 x 64 stereo audio router and the other is a 64 x 64 analogue video router. These units are to route signals from a number of internal and external feeds including local television and radio receivers, feeds from London, as well as fibre signals. Quartz will also supply a Q32 tally router to act as a transmission switcher, a SC-1000 system controller and 20 remote control panels.
The SC-1000 will run the flexible Quartz WinControl software to monitor and manage multiple sources via PC based workstations for up to sixty people at the new bureau. Here, WinControl reduces cabling and infrastructure costs by eliminating the need for a ring main that traditionally used RF modulators and demodulators, or for complex hard-wired control panels. WinControl enables users to control the routers from their desktop PCs.
The Moscow Bureau is home to BBC News operators across Russia and the adjacent countries of the former Soviet Union and supports eight hours of World Service Russian and Eurasian live broadcasting per day. The Bureau will comprise of a TV studio, two video editing suites, four recording workshops and three main radio production studios, along with bureau support services and a substantial technical apparatus room.
The BBC awarded the installation contract to systems integrators, M.G Hurst, who previously supplied Quartz equipment for BBC Bureaus in Washington, New York and Singapore.
