The Bureau to manage New Cinema Fund
FilmFour Lab and the Film Council's New Cinema Fund have announced that the production company The Bureau have been brought in to manage the new short film scheme Cinema Extreme launched last year.
The Bureau are an independent production company working with "innovative, original emerging voices, providing a home for bold, visionary directors".
Cinema Extreme has been created by FilmFour Lab and the New Cinema Fund to encourage and develop the careers of filmmakers with an original vision and cinematic flair who can use the scheme as a launch-pad into the making of their first feature film. The scheme will make four films in 2002, and a further five in 2003. Any film selected can be produced through a production company, other than The Bureau, who will act as the initial reception point and filter for submissions. The Bureau may act as the production company of a selected film if there is no company attached. Each film will have a budget of up to £50,000.
Cinema Extreme is part of the ambitious programme of four schemes set up by FilmFour Lab and the New Cinema Fund to encourage directors, producers, and creative talent to push their creative boundaries. Each partner is investing £250,000 a year between the four schemes: Cinema Extreme, Comedy, Internet/Viral and a completion fund for shorts. Shine Entertainment have already been appointed to run the Comedy Shorts scheme.
