China’s Hebei Broadcasting Bureau Launches DTV with Scopus systems

Scopus Network Technologies, a leading supplier of digital television video networking to the broadcasting industry, has announced that Hebei Broadcasting Bureau, Hebei Province’s government broadcaster, has launched a digital television platform based on Scopus solutions for its digital microwave network.
The system, in the province adjacent to Beijing, represents China’s first provincial digitised SDH microwave network system. Scopus worked in Hebei with its authorised system integrator in China, Smart Network Solutions (International) Ltd (SNS).
Operating since October 2004, Hebei’s DTV platform transmits six video and four audio channels over the network from the central microwave station in Hebei’s capital city, Shijiazhuang. The transmission reaches 26 remote sites throughout the whole province and enables content contribution of ten additional channels from 10 prefecture-level microwave stations. The new system enhances Hebei Broadcasting Bureau’s abilities to further diversify its programming while at the same time improving its microwave network usability and control.
Scopus’ complete platform for Hebei Broadcasting Bureau includes digital broadcast headend, remote digital receiving decoding and contribution systems. Integrated together, the platform comprises CODICO E-1000 Encoders, IRD-2600 & IRD-2800 Professional Decoders, RTM-3300 & RTM-3800 Multiplexers and a state-of-the-art Network Management System based on Scopus’ NMS-4000. The headends have built-in redundancy to ensure system stability required by microwave transmissions and broadcast.
Mickey Mushinsky, Scopus VP of China Operations remarked: “Hebei Broadcasting Bureau selected Scopus after a stringent selection process. Following a successful launch and after three months of smooth system operations, we have once again proved that our solutions provide the most cost effective and technologically advanced package.”
