Sony Professional Helps TG4 Make Transition To Digital System

At NAB 2009, Sony Professional announced that the Irish National broadcaster, TG4, has selected Sony Professional to deliver and manager a major migration to digital asset management (DAM) technology.
The transition to a new Media Asset Management (MAM) platform is part of TG4's commitment to remain at the forefront of innovation and to continuously seek to improve its production, storage and delivery systems through the deployment of efficient IT technologies.
TG4, in partnership with Sony Professional, are in the process of developing and deploying file based workflows as part of the move to a fully integrated digital platform. The new MAM system will provide TG4 with the ability to digitise, archive and restore files internally at around four times faster than real time.
TG4's MAM system comprises a package of products providing integration between Channel Content Management (MediaGenix), application software (Pharos Mediator) and video server and storage systems (Omneon and Sony Petasite with LT04 storage).
Roy Shufflebotham, Sales Manager of Sony Professional, said: "We are delighted to be helping TG4 respond to the changing media landscape and maintain its position as one of the most technically advanced TV stations in Europe. moving to a digital asset management platform will enable TG4 to achieve significant operational efficiencies in managing content, from browsing, editing, retrieving and storing digital content directly from the desktop."
Commenting on TG4's selection of Sony Professional production equipment, Neil Keaveney, Director of Technology, TG4, said: "We were aware of Sony's strong track record in delivering and supporting innovative and tailored production systems, particularly as a leading MAM provider. Our experience to date has been very positive and Sony has really demonstrated a great understanding of our requirements. We are very confident that the new digital asset management system will provide us with the technology capability to improve efficiencies, preserve media content, allow delivery to new emerging digital platforms and provide easy access to content for all."
In addition to the delivery of the new MAM system, Sony Professional is also providing a range of consultancy support services covering training and support to TG4.
