TG4 adopts 844/X from Media 100

Media 100, a leading developer of advanced media systems, has announced that Irish broadcaster TG4 has purchased 844/X, the award-winning editing and compositing system, for creating in-house promotions.
The state-run television station, that airs over 120 hours of Gaelic and English language programming per week, recently installed 844/X in its promotions department and is already reaping the performance and quality of the 10-bitsystem to fly through projects in record time. This not only means greater productivity - most notably eliminating the need to work through the night when they have a particularly tight deadline - but also greater freedom to experiment creatively with the work they produce.
TG4's purchase of 844/X, made through Media 100 authorised reseller Eurotek, followed extensive research into a number of well-known editing and compositing systems on the market.
John Higgins, Chief Engineer at TG4, said: "With 844/X, Media 100 has really looked at what the industry wants and needs and has developed a system perfectly tailored to layer-intensive work, in our case promos. We see Media 100 very much as a long-term business partner, and 844/X as a system with a clear development path that will grow with us as our business evolves."
TG4 are already using 844/X in earnest, and in fact no sooner had the system been installed in December than it was put to work on the entire promo line-up for the channel's Christmas schedule, with stunning results.
Commenting on TG4's use of the system, TG4 senior editor Ronan OhEidhin said: "844/X has been a welcome addition to the promos department. It's robust and reliable and gives us some great functionality such as real-time compositing and strong colour correction and effects tools. The other really nice thing about 844/X is that its real-time speed means that you can see your ideas take shape as soon as they occur to you."
TG4 sources programmes from independent production companies as well as from RTÉ, the national broadcaster for Ireland. The channel also broadcasts a range of public service programmes in English including live coverage of Dáil Éireann, the Irish parliament.

844/X systems are available now, with prices for complete system configurations starting from around £32,695.
All 844/X systems are available exclusively through authorised 844/X value-added resellers.
