'Seomra a Sé' Airs On TG4

‘Seomra a Sé’, a new series of four live half hour dramas broadcast from Solas Studios, Co. Galway, begins airing on Thursday 13 March at 9.30pm on TG4. The series begins with ‘An Fear a Stáitse’, written by Skillset's NI Manager Cecilia McAllister and directed by IFTA nominated director Robert Quinn.
Four winning scripts were chosen from 60 entries in TG4 and Dearg Films’ ‘Seomra a Sé’ competition, launched in late 2007. Each of the winning scriptwriters - Cecilia McAllister, Jennifer Davidson, Siobhan Phinney and Liz Nugent - received a €2,000 cash prize in addition to having their script produced and broadcast on TG4.
Beginning with ‘An Fear a Stáitse’ on the 13th, the drama will star Peadar Lamb (Cré na Cille) and Tom Ó’Suilleabháin (The Clinic).
Next up in the series is Jennifer Davidson’s script ‘Bróga‘s Stocaí’. Directed by Bríd Ó’Gallchóir, the monologue-style drama features Máire Hastings (The Running Mate).
Siobhan Phinney has penned ‘An Tóir’, the third drama in the series. Directed by Niall Ó Sioradáin, the surreal drama stars Ned Dennehy (The Tiger’s Tail).
Liz Nugent’s script ‘An Coinne’, directed by Darach Mac Con Iomaire, is the final drama of the four.
Each ‘Seomra a Se’ episode will be introduced by TV presenter Páidi O Lionáird, who will introduce some of the series’ characters and give an insight into what goes on behind-the-scenes on a live TV drama.
"Lots of the scripts we received were of a very high standard, it was difficult to choose the four winners," said ‘Seomra a Se’ producer Rossa O Sioradáin. "This is the first live drama that has been done on Irish TV since 1961. It’s a big undertaking, there are a lot of things that could go wrong on the night, but we spend the last few weeks preparing for it and we’re looking forward to the first drama going live on TG4."
The series is part of the BCI Sound and Vision Scheme.
‘Seomra a Se’ begins at 9.30pm on Thursday 13th March on TG4 and runs until Sunday 16 March.
