Canopus announces support for Sony XDCAM Professional Disc System

At NAB, Canopus announced real-time non-linear editing support for the Sony’s XDCAM Professional Disc System (DVCAM mode).
Developed in collaboration with Sony, the Canopus Support Module for the XDCAM system provides support throughout Canopus’s line of editing solutions, EDIUS NX, EDIUS SP, EDIUS SD and EDIUS HD.
By adding XDCAM MXF (Material eXchange Format) support, Canopus streamlines the workflow by supporting a direct connection via i.LINK to the disc player and making it easy for EDIUS users to add XDCAM footage to their projects, without conversion. Users simply copy MXF files (DVCAM mode) to the EDIUS system and begin editing. Since EDIUS also supports mixing of different frame rates and sizes of AVI, MPEG and QuickTime files and even HD/SD resolution, XDCAM footage can easily integrate into existing EDIUS projects alongside other asset types.
Canopus Chairman Hiro Yamada said: “XDCAM is making a significant impact in the broadcast world, especially for electronic news gathering applications. Through its direct integration with XDCAM, as well as its high-productivity features, EDIUS editing solutions are perfect companions for Sony’s new tapeless workflow in the broadcast arena.”
The General Manager of optical and network solutions for Sony Electronics’ Broadcast and Production Systems Division, Theresa Alesso, added: “The EDIUS line of editing products complements the XDCAM system’s capabilities such as MXF-based file transfer. The XDCAM system was designed to enable interoperability with an array of third-party solutions, and Canopus’s EDIUS products should help to extend the benefits of the XDCAM system’s workflow to a broader range of applications.”
The Canopus Support Module for the XDCAM system will be available Q3 2005 from Canopus and its authorized dealers and system integrators.
