5D Commander takes charge on set

Postproduction systems developer 5D have released 5D Commander [on-set], a new technology that enables digital filmmakers to shoot and edit on set.
5D Commander [on-set] is the latest in a line of capture devices from 5D and supports the trend towards on-set digital acquisition, review and visual effects production.
5D Commander [on-set] comes with five hours of uncompressed storage as standard. On a feature set it can record real-time, uncompressed footage from an HD camera, such as the Thomson Viper, providing filmmakers with an instant playback facility and the ability to edit takes together immediately.
The same workflow pipeline can also be harnessed for on-set digital visual effects production, enabling a director to see the results of a particular special effects shot within minutes.
5D Commander [on-set] provides a convenient and flexible way to acquire, view, sequence and distribute full-frame SD, HD, CG and film-resolution data, such as daily test composites for movie special effects, 3D content, or the uncompressed, real-time output from an HD camera. Material can be viewed immediately once it has been captured directly into 5D Commander [on-set] from the originating workstation or camera.
