London History On The Screen On Gordon Square

A series of free screenings are taking place over June and July.
The events at The Screen on Gordon Square, Birkbeck College’s new Bloomsbury cinema, will also mark the launch of the London Screen Study Collection (LSSC).
Films portraying key moments in the history of how Londoners entertained themselves during the 20th Century will be shown:
  • 9 June Hue and Cry (1947) with Alastair Sim, Jack Warner
  • 26 June Expresso Bongo (1959) With Laurence Harvey, Cliff Richard
  • 3 July Tonite Let’s All Make Love in London (1967) and Wholly Communion (1965)
All screenings are at 2.30pm on Tuesdays. The entrance can be found at 43 Gordon Square. Admission is free, but seating is limited and may be reserved.
The London Screen Study Collection is a new initiative. It is supported by Film London , MLA London and Birkbeck. It aims to make films from London more accessible, with an outreach programme of exhibitions and events around the London region.
The LSSC exhibition, 'Moving Pictures Come to London: the First Decades, 1894-1914', is at the City of Westminster Archives Centre (10 St Ann's Street, SW1P) 5 - 30 June, and also at West End Live in Leicester Square 23 and 24 June.
