SpycerBox To Provide Further Capacities For DVS-SAN

Digital Video Systems (DVS) is to unveil a new product at NAB 2007, the SpycerBox which adds essential features to the DVS-SAN.
As their solution to help optimize the workflow in the post production and broadcast industry, DVS will present the SpycerBox at NAB 2007 at booth SL2608. The established DVS-SAN will be extended with a crucial feature set: the SpycerBox. The SpycerBox consists of a hardware and a software package and grants all users of the central storage system DVS-SAN immediate insights into the central storage’s contents.
Using the SpycerBox operators have access to low-resolution proxy clips that any commercial computer can play out. Since the preview proxies are stored and available on the SpycerBox, the performance of the SAN will not be affected, even when parallel browsing activities take place. Additionally, these proxies can be transferred to the client system allowing editors to work offline on their timeline. CLIPSTER will later apply their editing results to the high-resolution material during the conforming process. With the SpycerBox DVS will also implement a complete SAN backup and offer file server functions.
The SAN’s performance will not be strained unnecessarily due to the preview processes. Therefore, the central storage still provides its high capacity for real-time record and play-out. The SpycerBox scales and compresses the film projects’ high amount of data automatically. The preview proxies enable editors to play out the clips on low-performance computers instead of only scrubbing the high-resolution and uncompressed clips. The proxies not only unburden the SAN, but also facilitate the complete workflow chain in the post production or broadcast site: High-performance equipment such as CLIPSTER can now be engaged and used in other DI processes.
By aligning the original material with the proxy data automatically, time-consuming administrative processes on the SAN can now be cancelled. Therefore, the new DVS product accelerates DI workflows.
DVS Product Manager Konstantin Schinas said: “Spycer, our data manager, was able to show innovative ways for managing scattered data storage to our customers. With the SpycerBox we take another step forward and optimize the usability of central storage systems via proxy administration.”
Software and hardware manufacturer DVS presented the innovative data manager Spycer that received a “Pick of Show award from IBC 2006“.
In the same year a new line of disk recorders came to market: Pronto2K.2 and ProntoHD.2 enable real-time multi-resolution capture and play-out combined with full conforming.
