VideoForum To Go Live On Sky

Launching at the VideoForum exhibition this year will be DC-Sat.Net’s live MPEG 4 video delivery service using low cost VSat Satellite technology.
Primarily aimed at news journalists and smaller cable and satellite channels, the show will be televised on Information TV (channels 181 in the Sky EPG) and will also be available live on the web.
“It is a very compelling technology for broadcasters,” commented Stephen Flood DC-Sat.Net’s managing Director. “Capital Costs are reduced by a factor of 10 and running costs by a factor of 4.”
The company will also be exhibiting the Galaxy VJ - a low-profile MPV, modified to include an automated two-way satellite system, onboard power and MPEG 4 Encoders. The vehicle was originally built to provide coverage of the World Cup for the Press Association, and then saw service with the BBC as part of their VSat trial, first going live on News 24 at the beginning of October and running nightly contribution feeds for South East Today.
“VSat technology was originally designed for credit card swipes at remote gas stations”, commented Flood, “and now the BBC are using it for their daily news programmes.”
The company’s view is that this technology will not replace existing systems, it will, however enable a new generation of content to be delivered, opening new creative programming opportunities for broadcasters which were previously cost prohibitive.
