DVS Spycer Available As Free Download
A basic version of Spycer, the first-generation innovative data management software from DVS, is now available free of charge, and can be downloaded from:
www.spycer.net .
Launched to much acclaim at IBC 2006, Spycer provides distributed content management, since it neither requires a central server nor central storage. The free version includes full browsing and search capabilities and the Windows-based software runs on every commercial computer. Versions for Linux and Mac OS X are planned for future releases.
Spycer is intended to enable postproduction professionals to view and manipulate the dpx, tiff and other file sequences that are a staple of the DI workflow. Spycer is a tool designed to help users search for, identify, view, move and or defragment these potentially massive amounts of data more easily, as well as providing tools to search through and edit the corresponding metadata in file headers or associated xml files.
Every workstation running Spycer acts as a mini server; together forming SpycerNet, a scalable content management nework. With Spycer, distributed content management becomes a reality.
Rupert Watson of root6, the sole UK reseller for DVS commented: "The free version of Spycer provides a unique opportunity to evaluate its advantages first-hand. The complete version of the software will be sold separately and will also become an integral part of the DVS finishing solution CLIPSTER, and its workhorse digital disk recorders Pronto2K and ProntoHD, as well as the extremely fast and reliable DVS-SAN central storage network."
