Mattaus Bussman Joins Draw Pictures

Award-winning German director, Matthaus Bussman, has just signed to Draw Pictures for UK commercials and promos representation.
Bussman’s extensive commercials showreel includes: Wella Shockwaves 'Elevator' for Select Hamburg, Mercedes A-Class for Springer & Jacoby and Joop Perfume for Select New York. He is a prolific director and his work has won several awards including: a Kodak award for Crystal Water ‘Water Dance’; an Austrian ADC for Drei award for “Hinter Dem Mond”; a 2005 Möbius Gold for Hansaplast Heatpad and an Intermedial Globe Gold Award at the 2005 WorldMedia Festival for Mercedes’ A-Klasse Product Film.
Bussman is well known across Europe for his ability to draw unexpected ‘magic moments’ from cast and crew, whilst combining this spontaneity with immaculate pre-production and client-friendly clarity. However, Bussman’s directing abilities go way beyond performance. He has experience in all aspects of film making: from editing at Cineateam Filmproduction in Frankfurt to being a VFX artist at Das Werk, again in Frankfurt. He has also spent spells as a PA, AD and casting director.
Bussman reveals his unique directing style: “After meticulous pre-production planning, I try to leave room for improvisation so that I can freestyle whenever possible. My crew stays on their toes so that we are always able to quickly turn the camera to get that special little piece that was missing before. I also like to apply my technical knowledge through the art department, lighting and editing. Sometimes a rough non-visual execution is necessary to keep focus on the concept or the talent’s action.”
Bussman explains his reasons for joining Draw Pictures: “Although I was approached by some big-hitting, established commercials production companies, I prefer the fresh energy that Draw expresses. It is young and obviously very creative. The way I see it, they are doing what they are doing with a lot of passion and I think that this fits very well together with my way of working.”
