BBC RESOURCES DRAW DISCOVERY’S BRAINS
BBC Resources have produced cerebral computer graphics to illustrate The Discovery Channel’s 50-minute science documentary ‘Rage to Revenge’.
The visuals help to illustrate the programme’s investigation into the complex workings of the brain during certain behavioural changes that humans might experience, such as anger and fear.
Art Director and Designer of the graphics, Paul Mitchell, said: “The slowmo live action sequences were shot on film at 100 frames per second. We used Silicon Graphics workstation hardware, Maya for 3D modelling and animation, and Avid illusion for compositing.”
A blend of live action sequences and 3D animation were used to reconstruct real life situations and to illustrate the sequence of events that occur in the human brain as a consequence, down to microscopic detail.
The project was commissioned by Discovery Channel, directed by Jill Fullerton Smith and Diana Hill, and the Executive Producer was Caroline van den Brul of BBC Science.
