IBIS Highlighter Recognised At IBC Innovatation Awards

IBIS Highlighter at Kanal 75 has received the Highly Commended runner-up award at the IBC Innovation awards.
In recognition of the successful innovation and expertise created through the partnerships between technology suppliers and users, the project with Swedish broadcaster, Kanal 75 was included in the final three competitors for the award for Innovative Application of Technology in Content Management.
The Awards, which attracted entries from over 100 companies, were judged by an international panel of editors and journalists representing key industry technology titles worldwide.
“It is a testament to the drive of Kanal 75 and the originality of IBIS that we have been honoured in these awards,” commented IBIS Managing Director, Mike Shaw.
“The success of this project has been underlined by the co-operation between all those involved to conceive and deliver an attractive solution from both a technological and a business perspective.”
A unique derivation of the Highlighter Tool - IBIS Horse Racing Logger - is installed at Kanal 75 in Stockholm, which manages the country's horse racing video distribution by satellite to betting and other outlets. It enables the automatic capture and tracking of metadata throughout the video acquisition process. Logging highlights of races across Sweden, it handles up to eight track meetings every day: each meeting comprising up to 8 races and each race up to 24 horses.
Its implications for the future and for other broadcasters can be seen from its success at Kanal 75 where it has been a proven time and money saver, meeting precisely the brief to produce instant highlights with minimum human intervention and maximum confidence. Citing future developments Jens Thelander of Kanal 75 commented: “We haven’t yet used its full potential and next year we will be expanding its Internet use on our Kanal 75 website."
IBIS Highlighter itself is specifically designed to meet the needs and budgets of Sports news departments, providing the most efficient, cost-effective use of resources. to facilitate the fast turn around and management of sports events, studio-based programming, and outside broadcasts,
Uniquely, IBIS Highlighter does not rely on dedicated hardware, but can be used within existing videoserver networks; allowing broadcasters to maximise their capital expenditure. Crucially to workflow management, IBIS Highlighter captures all metadata associated with studio or OB transmitted sporting events and their highlights, retaining that data for use by third party systems.
