TANDBERG Television selects OmniTek PQA for Production Test

At IBC leading test and measurement manufacturer OmniTek announced that TANDBERG Television has chosen to equip its test facility with multiple OmniTek PQA systems.
TANDBERG Television is the market leader in advanced video compression systems with an award-winning portfolio of encoders and professional receivers for high definition and standard definition MPEG-2, MPEG-4 AVC and SMPTE VC1.
The OmniTek PQA is a full-reference picture quality analyzer which performs detailed analysis of images in all SD and HDTV formats, to establish the exact level of image degradation through a processing path.
“The OmniTek PQA is ideally suited for automated testing of video compression products, because it can resolve the smallest differences between reference and test video sequences in real time using natural pictures rather than artificial test signals,” commented Mike Sparks, TANDBERG Television’s director of operational quality. “This means we can quickly detect and resolve any faults, and improve the overall quality of our products.”
The OmniTek PQA has been designed for use in a variety of different engineering environments in addition to production line test. Research laboratories all over the world are using the PQA for development of new algorithms and techniques for image compression, and broadcasters are using the system to get real-time analysis of the total image degradation through a transmission path, studio output to consumer set-top box.
At IBC stand 6.329, OmniTek will be demonstrating v2.0 software for the PQA system. Already adopted by many broadcasters and equipment manufacturers as the signal quality analyzer of choice, the new v2.0 PQA software offers extra features such as average-variance calculations, improved signal routing flexibility, and additional remote control capabilities.
