Dayang signs XDCAM agreement with Sony

Dayang International has signed an XDCAM alliance agreement with Sony Corporation.
The technical partnership ensures seamless interoperability between Sony's XDCAM blue-laser optical disc system and Dayang's range of editing equipment.
"This new agreement enables Dayang to offer the ability to capture high-resolution content simultaneously as frame-accurate browse-quality MPEG-4 proxy data," said Karlton Burn, Dayang International CEO. "The proxy data stream can then be communicated up to 50 times faster than real-time, or via a low-bandwidth connection, to allow immediate offline editing. Once the offline edit is complete, the required high-definition clips can be imported into the Dayang editor and auto-conformed without needing to ingest unwanted source content. Dayang editors will also track manually-added or automatically-placed XDCAM EssenceMark data identifying specific clips. The XDCAM format can be operated in MPEG-2 format (MPEG IMX mode) and in 25 megabit/s DVCAM mode. Dayang editors provide full support for both formats."
Dayang's D3-Edit workstation is designed to link seamlessly with Sony's XDCAM optical disk media, enabling fast and efficient editing. The two systems can be connected via IEEE-1394 or Ethernet. Content is then ingested into D3-Edit as browse-resolution proxy clips or at high-resolution. The D3-Edit workstation can in turn write back a clip list or a precisely edited programme.
Postproduction workflow begins with the ingest of proxy clips from XDCAM disk into the Dayang D3-Edit workstation. Preliminary editing can then be commenced immediately, resulting in an initial edit decision list. This EDL is used as the basis of precise editing which is subsequently rendered and recorded back to XDCAM disk.
News editing workflow begins with the ingest of proxy clips into a mobile nonlinear editor which then forms a basis for preliminary editing. The resultant clip list is returned to the original XDCAM optical disk. High resolution video content can then be edited precisely using the clip list as a guide. Finally, the news content is rendered and the precisely conformed programme is written back to disk.
Dayang produces a broad range of audio/video editors for SD and multidefinition applications. Latest of these, to be introduced at NAB 2006, is the D3-Edit HD8 which supports compressed HD and uncompressed video formats including 8/10 bit YUV, MPEG2-I and DVCPRO HD as well as DV, DVCPRO, DVCPRO-50 SD and HDV.
