BALEN JOINS LONDON NEWS NETWORK

LONDON Network News (LNN) have announced that Malcolm Balen has been appointed as Head of News.
Balen, formerly a BBC Television News Executive Editor, is expected to take up his new post at the beginning of November. He will take over from former Head of News Nick Atkins who left in August this year to become Director of programming for ONdigital.
Balen worked at ITN’s Channel 4 news programme as Senior Programme Editor before moving to the BBC in 1994. He produced the Nine O’clock News before being promoted to Executive Editor at BBC’s one, six and nine o’clock bulletins in a reshuffle that was unpopular with staff.
Earlier this year he was sidelined in a restructure led by Head of Television News Roger Mosey.
