Dayang completes China's first dedicated HD/SD broadcast centre

Dayang has announced the completion of China's first dedicated HD/SD production and transmission centre.
Newly built in the Dongcheng district of central Beijing for People's Liberation Army Television (PLA-TV), the 20,000 square metre Liberation Military Broadcast facility is equipped to originate, postproduce and uplink programmes for Central China Television Channel 7 which covers teenage, agricultural and military themes.
"Central China Television has declared its full commitment to HDTV and is now encouraging its various content providers in the same direction," said Dayang International CEO Karlton Burn. "Dayang was awarded a US $6 million contract to design and install the entire PLA-TV technical system. It is a complete multidefinition solution including no less than 43 nonlinear edit stations: 20 D3-Edit 5000, 13 D3-Edit 7000 and 10 D3-Edit HD9. The system also includes nine Dayang VIPS-4-1250 servers, four Magic Wall multichannel monitor splitters, a D3-Dub copying facility, D3-News processor and D3-Exchange file-based data network. These resources are configured to enable HD and SD signal ingest and archiving, browsing, editing, graphics and 3D animation, asset management, master control, newsroom processing and automated playout. The system was required to meet domestic and international broadcast specifications. It also had to be capable of operating independently or as part of a wider broadcast network. The entire Dayang installation passed its commissioning tests successfully and is now on air."
Now in its 11th year, CCTV Channel 7 broadcasts an average of 17 hours daily to the entire country via the Asia 1A satellite. PLA-TV contributes 23 hours each week, including 60 minutes of daily news production with onsite interviews which can be edited on location and forwarded to Beijing by satellite.
