CHANGES TO PERFORMERS' WORK PERMITS

WITH effect from October 1, the work permit rules governing supplementary employment for performers with valid work permits has changed.
The revision means that an actor who has been given a role in a film, will also be entitled to take another acting job in a theatre without the theatre producer having to make an additional work permit application to which the film producer has already made.
However, if the actor was to take any alternative form of employment, for example, entertaining on television, then the rules requiring additional permission for this still apply.
Applications submitted in respect of individuals or groups who are not internationally established entertainers performing in their own right or cultural artists, are required to demonstrate why the position cannot be filled by a resident worker. This includes those applications where the entertainers, not normally well known or unique, will be performing at the same venue or series of venues for three months or more.
