LFVDA SELECT SIX AWARD WINNERS
THE LONDON Film and Video Development Agency (LFVDA) received a total of 117 applications for this year’s London Artists Film and Video Production Awards (LAF).
A spokesperson for the LFVDA said: “The response to the scheme was high as was the quality of applications. The panel had a challenging job selecting the six projects, which will make up the touring programme. Considerations of quality were foremost, whilst issues of duration and compatibility could not be ignored. In the end, after many hours of deliberation, the proposals put forward by Paul Bush, Alnoor Deewshi, Uyen Luu, Carol Morley, Inger Lise Hansen and Cordelia Swann were selected.”
Gary Thomas, Arts Council’s Visual Arts Officer, said: “We are pleased to support the LFVDA’s Artists Film and Video commissioning initiative, This exciting collaborative project will offer audiences across the country the opportunity to see an exceptional programme of innovative and challenging artists’ film and video.”
Several of the selected films are due to go into production this month, as all work must be completed by September 2001. The LFVDA, operating as commissioners, will work closely with the filmmakers.
As the majority of funding is from the National Touring Programme the main remit was to select a body of work with a total running time of about 80 minutes suitable to play on single screens throughout the UK.
Members of the selection panel included, Chris Darke, Jayne Parker, Helen de Witt, Clio Barnard and Gill Henderson. Funding for the awards came from the Arts Council of England, the LFVDA’s London Production Fund, the East London Film Fund and the London Arts Board.
