PHILIPS EXTEND BBC NI WIDE-SCREEN CAPABILITIES

PHILIPS LDK 200 cameras have been selected to add further wide-screen capability to BBC Northern Ireland production facilities.
BBC Resources in Belfast have purchased five Philips LDK 200 camera channels, which will be installed in their Wide-screen Digital Type 6 OB Unit.
The selection of the Philips cameras followed a detailed consultation and evaluation process that saw cameras from three major manufacturers put through their paces to allow the BBC’s operational and technical staff to assure themselves of the performance and handling aspects of the cameras available.
The cameras will be used for a variety of Outside Broadcast work undertaken by BBC Resources in Northern Ireland, additionally the OB truck will be deployed for demanding production work in the BBC’s 6000 square feet drive-in studio.
Jim Greaves, account manager at Philips Digital Networks in the UK, said: “It is particularly satisfying that this critical evaluation by the BBC has resulted in the selection of the LDK 200, further adding to the success of this camera that was introduced less than a year ago.”
The latest addition to the LDK 200 portable triax camera employs the unique Philips DPM sensors that provide instant switching between conventional and wide-screen aspect ratios and without the need to change or adapt lenses.
The LDK 200 also features handling normally associated with a full-blown studio camera. Weighing just 4.9 kg the LDK200, and is combined with excellent balance and ergonomics making handheld shooting particularly easy.
