PHILIPS’ DIGITAL CINEMATOGRAPHY AT POLYGONE-AV

PHILIPS Digital Networks has received an order from the European group Polygone-AV for High-Definition Broadcast Cameras.
In a bid to expand Polygone’s High Definition production capabilities the order includes a new LDK 7000HD Series 2/3-inch Portable Camera System with native multi-format capabilities.
Officially launched at this year's IBC, the LDK 7000HD Series is hailed as the lightest high-definition camera currently available, and the first 'native' multi-format camera on the market to use 9.2-million pixel CCDs.
Polygone-AV, which specializes in producing and distributing short entertainment and documentary video programs, is one of the first companies in Europe to adopt high-definition digital video production. The company has been using Philips HD Cameras since 1993 and, with the new order, will extend its facilities with the latest technology through the LDK 7000HD camera.
The new LDK 7000HD offers immediate digital acquisition of images. Equipped with Philips' High-Definition Dynamic Pixel Management (HD-DPM+ T) CCD-sensors the camera natively provides the true progressive frame rates that are common for film-like applications, such as 1080p24, p25 and p30. At 720p, it provides frame rates that enable slow motion applications. With HD-DPM+ sensors, the LDK 7000HD can also be natively switched to either 1080i or the true progressive 720p HDTV format.
Offering super-wide aspect ratios exceeding 16:9, similar to those used in full feature films, the camera dedicated scene files, which can be used to simulate different looks.
On signing the order, Claude Haim, president of Polygone-AV, said: "After an extensive comparison between the products currently available on the market, we chose Philips due to our positive experience with the cameras already supplied by them. Also, we believe that the LDK 7000HD, equipped with Philips' HD-DPM+ sensors, is the only camera of its kind available that fulfils our needs for optimal digital image quality."
