BBC RESOURCES INSTALL TWO PHILIPS SWITCHERS

THE BBC have announced that they have taken delivery of two Philips DD35 production switchers.
The order from BBC Resources Outside Broadcasts (OBs) is part of a programme to upgrade an existing large DMCCR and a smaller BBC Type 11 OB truck to cope with the ever increasing demands of digital broadcasting.
Following exhaustive acceptance tests at Philips manufacturing facility in Germany, the larger unit, a DD35-4 will be installed by the BBC in the DMCCR at their Kendal Avenue base located to the west of London.
The switcher, designed for high-end live production from large OB vans and studios, provides four M/Es, one of which can be configured as a PGM/PST bank and in the BBC configuration has three dual-wipe generators.
For this installation the BBC have selected the larger LX control panel since this affords direct single button access to any of 32 inputs from the 62 available, enabling the most comprehensive and varied productions to be undertaken without restriction and with fast flawless operation. Three internal downstream keyers, with the possibility to integrate a further three externally, ensures that ultimate flexibility is available for international broadcasting by providing varying levels of ‘clean feed’.
The smaller DD35-3 provides direct access to 24 inputs from the 48 available. The more compact panel is the ideal size to be accommodated in the smaller Type 11 OB truck yet still providing the production flexibility and power required from any versatile OB unit. The DD35-3 features two fully specified M/Es together with a PGM/PST bank.
Both switchers are equipped with 15 auxiliary buses and Philips DynaChrome chroma keyers. Maximum versatility is assured by the standard capability of all DD35 switchers to instantly switch between 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios.
