SMG PLACE OB EQUIPMENT ORDER
PHILIPS Broadcast have announced that SMG Television have placed a substantial order for television equipment.
Formerly known as Scottish Media Group, SMG, the sixth largest television producer in the UK, plans to furnish a new outside broadcast truck, which will be added to their existing fleet.
The order calls for seven Philips LDK 100 cameras together with two of the recently launched LDK 200 cameras to be supplied in a variety of configurations that include large lens adaptors and Triax capability fitted to each camera. A feature of these cameras is the Philips developed and manufactured DPM sensors that provide instantaneous switching from 4:3 to the now widely accepted 16:9 aspect ratio. This is achieved with no loss of resolution and maintains the same viewing angle without requiring a change of lens.
In addition the truck will have a Philips DD35-3 digital production switcher. Philips say the Series 3 M/E is an outstanding performer in large live action events, where its extensive input capabilities combined with powerful memory capabilities facilitate complex fast production. Ensuring that this new facility makes the maximum use of the resources available, a Philips Venus router completes the order.
Announcing the order, Tom Gallagher, Controller of Resources for SMG Television, said: “For us, a significant advantage of the Philips Cameras is the use of the unique DPM sensors which allows us to retain and re-use our existing inventory of lenses in both 4:3 and 16:9 production and without any modifications required.”
Philips Account Manager, Mike Snell said: “This new OB facility will extend SMG’s widescreen broadcasting capability from the many venues that include coverage of the Scottish Premier League, so it will certainly be a showcase for Philips broadcasting equipment alongside SMG’s recognised programme production.”
All the new equipment ordered is due to be delivered by September 2000.
