TELEWEST INTRODUCE VIRTUAL SHOPPING MALL

TELEWEST Communications, providers of multi-channel television, have announced that over 150 high street brands are available on their interactive TV platform.
Digital TV viewers can now browse the UK’s virtual shopping mall as HSBC and Prudential, along with 21 new content partners, have signed up to Telewest Active Digital.
Chris Townsend, Telewest’s Director of E-commerce and Interactive Services, said: “This is interactive TV shopping at its best. Our virtual mall will allow digital TV consumers to shop from their armchairs this Christmas, rather than fighting with the queues.”
The agreement will add more choice to Telewest’s growing virtual mall, allowing Active Digital customers to access a range of stores and services from their homes.
Birmingham, Bristol and Newcastle City Councils have followed the lead of Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council by giving residents access to local information and news through interactive TV.
Telewest launched their Active Digital service in October 1999 and have over 250,000 customers. More than 90 per cent of Telewest’s networks are capable of carrying digital and interactive services.
